Week 26: "6 More Weeks!! (:"

Our District! From left to right: Her. Hansen, Her. Benny, Sis. Jenson, Elder Westrup, Me, Elder Christensen, Elder Croft, Elder Carstens, and Elder Proffit (one of our Zone Leaders).

Hey everyone!(: I hope you all had an amazing week. We found out about transfers on Saturday, and I will be staying in Longmont with Sister Jenson for six more weeks! I'm so excited and can't wait to see the miracles that the Lord has in store for the people here.

We had an amazing lesson with R_______ and S______ this week. It honestly was one of the most spiritual experiences that I've had out here on my mission. It was so cool to see they're understanding grow as we talked about the Restoration. Brother Gee testified of Joseph Smith's role as the prophet, and it was wonderful. S______ said that coming to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints felt like coming home. It was so sweet and I will never forget that experience.

We had a lesson with S____, and invited her to watch General Conference. I know that Thomas S. Monson is the Lord's prophet here on the earth today, and I know that listening to his words and following his council will keep us safe in a world that is on a downward spiral. S_____ is so sweet and I can see the joy that is coming into her life because of the gospel. We had our last District Meeting with Elder Croft and Elder Carstens before they leave. Our District really has become best friends. It's sad to see them go. During our meeting, this boy walked in and said that he was told that if he needed help he could come to the church. We talked to him for a little bit. He's been homeless since he was 13 years old, and he just had the most tired look in his eyes. We have an amazing Bishop and I know that he is going to do all he can to help him.
We made cookies for everyone at our last District Meeting! They were Sis. Jenson's recipe, and they looked so good!

The next day, we were walking down the street and we saw the same boy again! We talked with him for a while and let him know that God loves him and that we would do whatever we could to help him, and when we were leaving, he shook our hands and looked us in the eye and said, "Thank you so so so much. You have no idea how much this means to me,". It brought tears to my eyes, because you could see how much it meant to him. I hope that we can start meeting with him soon, and help him realize the love that God has for him. Then, we had a lesson with Ce______. It was so awesome, and he is the coolest guy ever. He is compiling the Bible into a rap. He's been working on it for 15 years. We talked to him about the Plan of Salvation, and it was so cool because he said he felt a "tingling" feeling. Sister Seyfi explained to him that it was the Holy Ghost. It was awesome. We had lesson with Sister H____ later, and she told us that when she saw us walking up to the door, she didn't have her glasses on but she knew that it was us walking up because we walked with confidence, like we were walking with Heavenly Father and Jesus. It was so sweet. Later, we had dinner at Five Guys (I found out that I can eat their fries! So exciting). S_____ works there and so she gave us free food cause she's the best. While we were there, this man came up and introduced himself to us. He is a Bishop in Nampa, Idaho, and he was baptized in Longmont when he was 26. He came and sat and talked with us for a little bit, and asked us how the work was going. Before he left, he looked us in the eye and said something that I won't ever forget because it was really powerful. "I know this isn't easy, but don't ever get discouraged. Stay positive, because this right here is the best thing you could ever be doing,". It lifted my spirits(:

We had a lesson with D____ and C_______. I love those two so much. I seriously am so happy that we have been able to see them grow in the gospel. C_______ is getting baptized soon and she is so excited about it. It's so neat to see them taking steps to improve their relationship with God.

Women's Conference was so uplifting. I heard so many things that brought such comfort and peace to my heart. I especially loved the part where it talked about how Christ is the hope that comforts us no matter where we are on our journey home to our Heavenly Father. I know that is true. I am so thankful for my Savior. For His infinite compassion and mercy towards me and towards all the people that I love. I feel so blessed to have the knowledge of His love in my life. It's changed me in such a way that I could have never done alone.

Sister Jenson and I with a creepy baby doll that we found at the church.

Sunday was magical. We had five of our investigators come to church, and R_________ brought one of his friends from work. R_______ and C_____both bore their testimonies, and it was such a neat experience! I love seeing people come to church and feel of the spirit that is there. I know that is such an essential part in deepening our conversion to the Lord. I'm so thankful for the Sacrament, for the fact that we can have a clean slate each week and recommit ourselves to be more like Christ. We were asked to speak at a fireside in another ward later, and it was awesome. All about missionary work, and their were lots of kids there! It was cool to see how many of them were thinking about serving. We ended the night with a visit to Dw_____. He is progressing slowly but surely, and he really is such a good man. I'm thankful for the strength the Lord is giving him.

I love this work, I love my Savior, I love my companion, I love my family, and I love all of you that are reading this! Thanks for all your support and prayers, I know it helps me, especially on the days when things are hard.

Love, Sister Allen

Week 25: "Joyful" (:

So, since we can't have real pets, our District has a (paper) pet sloth. The. Best(:

Hey everybody!(: I hope you all had the most amazing week. It's been beautiful here in Longmont, it's so nice to have the sun shining. I love Spring(:

On Monday we had a great dinner/lesson with the Doherty's and Brother C____. It was cool hearing about the missionary opportunities Brother C_____ has had recently(: He's an amazing person, and it's so awesome to see the light that he has because he's embracing the gospel. We had a lesson with a boy named A___ later. He's Agnostic, but he is interested in becoming a better person. I know that Christ is the perfect example of a good person, and following that example helps us become better each day. We also had the chance to visit a less-active lady that we haven't seen in a really long time. We were walking by Sister Morrison's house just as she and Sister Seyfi were getting ready to leave to go visit her, and we were invited to come along. It was amazing to see her again, and share a message of hope with her. I know the Lord loves her, and I do too. I'm so thankful that she has devoted Visiting Teachers that listened to the Spirit. I have faith that she is going to progress and become happier and stronger through the Lord.
                                                                          Flowers. It's officially Spring time(:

Tuesday was an interesting day. Lots of stuff fell through, but we met some awesome people who we have lessons scheduled with later this week! This one lady, Marsha, was so sweet. She is really one of the nicest people I think I've ever met. She told us we looked so cute, we should be on The Voice. It was funny(: We got to do service painting at the YMCA, and one of the workers called Sister Jenson and I "low-key gangsters". I'm not sure what that means exactly...or if it's a compliment haha.
                                                                                   Me and Sister Seyfi!(:

We went and helped R_______ on Wednesday. Her apartment flooded and so we helped her move all of her stuff upstairs. I feel so bad that she's had so many hard things happen since moving here :/ We eventually got everything moved and then we went and had a lesson with Sister Hall. Later, we went and met with our investigator, D_____. He is a really awesome guy, and it was neat talking to him about the Plan of Happiness. He shared some spiritual experiences he's had with us, and he got emotional while talking about it. You could tell that it meant a lot to him. Sister Merrill came with us and made some awesome comments about eternal families. I'm so thankful for the knowledge we have that our families our forever. I'm so thankful for my eternal family(:

On Thursday, we had an amazing miracle happen. We were going to contact some of our investigators, and on our way there we saw this man sitting on his front doorstep. We went over and talked to him, and found out that he had just moved here from Indianapolis this week. He was meeting with the Elders there and attending church, but then he came here and didn't know where the church was or anything. He said we can come by this next week and start teaching him(: We are so excited. We had an awesome lesson with Sister Kenworthy, who is leaving for her mission today! It was so spiritual(: Then later we met with D____, R______, and C______. C______ has a baptismal date for April 18th and we are so excited and happy for her! She has come so far and is embracing the gospel so fully in her life. It's amazing.

Friday we had a great lesson with Ca____. She's going through some tough things, but she has grown her faith so much and you can see how that is helping her stay positive. We got to see J____, the little boy who wanted us to come teach him and his sister, and his little friend A____. We gave them Because He Lives cards with pictures of Christ on them and it was adorable because Alan pointed to the picture and said, "That's my best friend!". My heart pretty much melted.
Because He Lives(: The video comes out on March 28th. It's beautiful!

We had an amazing Saturday. It was 70 degrees and sunny!(: We got a text from R_______ and S______, saying that they would be at church on Sunday! It was so great. We were walking down to contact people on Martin St., and we met this really cool guy named Ce____. We asked if we could share a message with him, and he said yes, so we taught the first lesson out on his porch. When we shared the account of Joseph Smith, the spirit was so strong it seemed to really click with him. He said he'd come to church on Sunday and that we could come back and share a message with him this week.  We also met this sweet lady and her boyfriend and daughter. They were really interested in learning more, but were getting ready to leave. They invited us to come back on Wednesday!(: We had dinner with Sister Merrill and her two cute daughters. She made an allergy-friendly chocolate cake and oh my goodness..it was heavenly. Then we had a lesson with Sister Morrison and her sweet granddaughter L___(: It went really well, and L____decided to do my hair so that I'd look pretty for our next lesson. She put it in a very painful but adorable bun, and then when she said the closing prayer she said, "Thanks for having the missionaries come over, thanks for letting me do Sister Allen's hair, it was just awesome!". Haha it was cute(:
Just hanging out on the floor with Sister Jenson(:

Yesterday at church was so uplifting and motivating. It was Ward Conference and I feel like there were so many things I needed to hear that the Lord just knew about(: R________ and S_______ were there, and we're going to meet with them on Tuesday. In third hour, R________said that they are planning on making this their home church! We are so stoked for them. C_____ also came to church!(: And that was really cool. He had to leave early for work, but he said that he loved how our church is so centered on Christ. Which is true, because it really is Christ's church.

I am so thankful that I have come to know for myself that the gospel is true. It's so crazy meeting people, and seeing that they are in the exact same place that I was two years ago. It's even more amazing when you see those people start to find out for themselves that God is real, that He loves them, and that there is truth, hope, healing, and incomprehensible joy that comes from being a part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I'm so thankful for my Heavenly Father and His love and mercy for me and for all of us. I know that that love is eternal, and it is beautiful(: There is nothing we can do to change that.
                                                                                                  Happy!

I love you all so much! Have a great week!

Week 24: " A M A Z I N G " (:

Hey everyone!(: I hope you have had the most wonderful week. I know God gives us blessings every single day, even on the hard days. I hope that you have all been able to recognize those this week and make sure to give thanks(: This week has been one of the most powerful and miraculous weeks on my mission so far, and I'm so excited to tell you about it!

Monday we had a great lesson with Sister Morrison and L___. L___ wants to get baptized, and we are so excited for her!(: She asks lots of great questions and is just so cute. She gets so excited about praying, and it's so awesome to see that with someone her age. Then we had a lesson with Brother C_____. He has been coming to church every week and is feeling the difference that it's making in his life. I am so happy for him, and so thankful for the Atonement of the Savior.

So Tuesday was one of the hardest days on my mission so far. We literally had everything fall through. And it can be so easy when that happens to look at yourself and be like "What am I doing wrong?". Something I've learned is that that is the wrong question. What I've been trying to ask more lately is "What more can I do that is good?" and that really has been making all the difference. We were able to have a great lesson with Brother L_______and then, something amazing happened. Sister Metzger called and left a voicemail on our phone. When I was serving in Fort Collins, we taught the Restoration to H____, the friend of some wonderful girls in the YSA Ward. The lesson went really well, and we were so happy about it, but we got transferred soon after that. Well, Sister Metzger wanted me to know that H_____ got baptized last week!!!(: Yay for planting seeds, for wonderful members that are such good examples, and for the Holy Ghost.

Wednesday was a miracle. The entire day. We had a lesson with R________, and we taught the Plan of Salvation. She opened up so much about her life, and the Spirit was so strong. Last week, she refused to accept a copy of the Book Of Mormon. This week, she accepted it and said the closing prayer in our lesson. She has had a complete change of heart, and it was amazing to see. Then we had a lesson with S_____, and it went amazing. She is such a strong person. Then, we went to try and see C__________, but she wasn't home. This little boy was following us, and we asked him if his family would like to hear about Jesus Christ, and he said yes. We met his sister M______ and she said that she would be really interested. It was just so crazy because he knew to come and get us. After that, we went to contact a referral that we got a couple weeks ago from a little girl that we met on the street. She told us to go see her friend J______in apartment 3. We had been trying for weeks with no luck. Then today, a woman named C______ answered. Turns out that she is J______'s mom. She let us in and we got talking to her and her husband K_____, and found out that he is a member of the church but hasn't been since he was 16!!! It was amazing. We set up an appointment to come back on Friday. I know that the Lord has a hand in everything and everyone we meet. It's crazy because we met A_____ and J___________, two of our new investigators, all because S_____ had to move her appointment to later and some other stuff happened that had us on that street at that time.

Zone Conference was on Thursday, and it was awesome. Our whole District sang Savior, Redeemer Of My Soul (Missionary Medley) together, and it was great. I love that song. I learned so many things at the conference that I know will help me become a better missionary. We got to see the new  "Because He Lives" video that is coming out on March 28th. It is so beautiful, needless to say it left me in tears. It's going to be so awesome, to have that coming out right before Easter. We had a lesson with C______ and R______, and it went so well. They are such awesome people, and have come so far. I'm so happy for them.
                                                                              *Laughing with our District!

We had a lesson with A_____ and J_________ on Friday, and it was amazing. The Spirit was so strong and they were so excited about everything, and really seemed to understand. We got to do service with M_____. I just love him. He's a great guy and such a good dad. Then, we had a lesson with K______ and C______ and their three kids. It was so awesome. S____ and J_____, the ten year old and eight year old, both want to be baptized and paid such good attention the entire time. S_____ asked great questions too. He also said the closing prayer and it was the sweetest thing ever. I am so excited for their family and I know that C_______'s heart will soften as she sees her family growing in the gospel(:

Saturday we had a lesson with A_____ and J___________ again and they brought their friend A________. It was so cool to teach them about the Plan of Happiness that God has for our lives. We ate dinner with the Griffins, and they are such a neat family. They're so funny. We also had the Ward Talent Show and it was great. D_____ and C________came and had such a fun time(:

Yesterday we had another miracle happen. We had both been praying that we could have someone come to church, and a lot of our investigators had to cancel last minute. We walked into the foyer, and saw these two people there. Their names are S______ and R________, and they saw our "Visitors Welcome" sign and decided to come to church!!(: It was amazing! They said they have driven by before, but that it just felt right that day. It was an answer to our prayers! They stayed for all three hours, and we're meeting with them next week. They are also coming to some activities and to church next week(:
*Thanks for the new pajamas Nana!! (:

So needless to say, this week was amazing. I know that as we pray and ask God for help with things, He will answer. We just have to have faith that He will, and give thanks when He does. I love being a missionary, I love seeing people become happier and better through the gospel. I am so thankful for the influence it's had in my life.

I love you all! Have a great week.

Love, Sister Allen

Week 23: "I Believe In Miracles!(please make sure you sing the title to this email)" (:

                                                                    The two amigo's! (:

Hey everyone!(: I hope you all had an awesome weekend. The sun is shining and it's been a beautiful week here in Longmont!

We had an awesome lesson with Brother C_____ on Monday. The Doherty's came along and we talked all about the strengthening and enabling power of the Atonement of our Savior. It was so neat to hear Brother C____ testify about how the Atonement has blessed and continues to bless his life. He's doing so awesome, and it's so cool to see how happy he is!

Our lesson with C_____ on Tuesday went amazing. She talked about how since she's started reading the Book of Mormon more frequently, she feels less empty. It's amazing how the Spirit can fill the holes in your heart that you don't even realize are there. I know that God loves us and wants to give us that healing and blessing of comfort, we just have to reach out for it. We had a lesson with one of our new investigators, and it went really well. She said that we can come back, and I can't wait to talk to her about the Plan of Happiness that God has for her life. We had a lesson with the E_________'s later that night, and it was really amazing because we got two referrals from their ten year old son H_______. We went and visited them after we left, and one of them was interested! We're meeting with her next Wednesday. It's amazing to see how in tune children are with the Spirit and how willing they are to share that light with others(:

Wednesday we met with S______. I just love her and am so happy for the progress that she has made. She literally has this light about her and I know it's because she's living the gospel more fully. Hearing her talk about prayer and scripture study made me smile from ear to ear. S______ has been a tender mercy for me here in Longmont. We had a lesson with some of the Seyfi's friends from work, and it was really neat talking about the Book of Mormon and the love that God has for us with them. I gave the training at District Meeting, and I was so nervous (because I always freak out about stuff like that, I don't know why), but when I started talking the Spirit totally helped me feel calm and it went really well(: I got to talk about charity, which is one of my favorite Christ-like attributes, so that was great. We went tracting before our dinner appointment and met some really amazing people, a few of which said they would be open to learning more. We had a lesson with L____ and Sister Morrison afterwards, and it was adorable because L___ read out of the Book of Mormon with us and then said the closing prayer. Her prayer was so sincere and she thanked Heavenly Father for the chance to read the Book of Mormon. That was a good example to me of how my own prayers need to be! As we were leaving we heard her say to her grandma, "They are SO nice!". It made me feel good(: We had an awesome lesson with J_____ that night. His family life is hard, but he really is so spiritually mature. I'm praying that he'll continue to grow in his understanding of the gospel.

Thursday was really amazing. We met this lady a few weeks ago at the bus stop. We'd been trying to meet with her for a while and she asked if we could meet her at Taco Bell. We were kinda worried that the atmosphere would be too loud but we decided to go for it because we wanted to see her! We taught her about the Restoration, and I kid you not, I completely forgot that we were in a Taco Bell haha. The Spirit was so strong, and I honestly could feel God's love for her as she told us about her life. It was a truly amazing experience. Later, we met with D_____ and R______. D_____ had a really hard and exhausting day, but she didn't want to cancel her appointment with us because she wanted and needed to feel the Spirit. Hearing her say that was so sweet. She has changed so much and is making such miraculous steps of growth. I know God is so proud of her, and I know she is seeing that change in herself, which is awesome.

On Friday we did a lot of service! It was awesome though. We helped people move and then helped set some things up for a school talent show at the local elementary school. H_____ and L____ go to school there and it was cute because when we walked in they were like, "YES! The Sister Missionaries are here!". We didn't have a dinner appointment so we decided to take each other on a companion date to this cute little restaurant called Thai Kitchen. The setting was very romantic, and the music was ridiculous. It was so much fun(: Later we had a lesson with the D______'s. Their daughter is one of the cutest kids I've ever met.
Our companion date to Thai Kitchen!haha! (:

We had a recent convert (like 8 days recent) move here from Fort Collins. We were helping her unpack on Saturday and she made us lunch. She is SO amazing. Seriously. She has overcome so much in her life and has made such an amazing leap of faith by getting baptized. She is so awesome and I'm really thankful that we get to work with her now(: Our lesson with her was one of the times that I will never forget from my mission, I felt so much joy and Christ-like love as we talked with her. We also met with our new investigator named D______. He is so kind and I'm so excited for him to grow closer to God!

This week was amazing. We have made it a goal to talk to LITERALLY everyone we see. Even if we have to go out of our way to do it. And we are seeing miracles because of that. One day, we passed this guy on the street. He had headphones in and avoided making eye contact with us so we just walked past. We both felt like we should have talked to him though. Two days later, we saw the same guy and we ran up and talked with him. He is really interested(: I know God gave us a second chance to talk to him. I know Heavenly Father truly is preparing people every single day to hear about the gospel. We are His hands on the earth, and we can help people change their lives through Christ(:

I love you guys! Have a great week.
Love, Sister Allen

Week 22: "5 Months Already?!" (:

Hello everyone!(: It's been a beautiful and busy week here in Longmont, and I can't believe that I hit my 5 month mark already! It's going by way too fast.

Monday was awesome. We had a great lesson with Brother C_____. I am so happy for him and the choices he's making in his life. I can see the light and the happiness that he has because of the gospel and it just makes my heart so happy!(:
Sister Jenson and I and our proteins!! haha! (:

On Tuesday we had a lesson with S_____, and her husband was there for it as well, which was such a miracle! It was really amazing hearing S______ talk about the Holy Ghost and how it has influenced her life. She has such a sweet spirit about her, and I am really excited that her husband is being supportive of her wanting to come to church now. It's been an awesome change to witness. We had a lesson with F____, and he was just so happy the entire time. He really does have such a good heart and is so excited about the gospel. We had dinner with the Mackrory's later and it was so fun. Living with them has been amazing so far, and they are such hilarious and kind-hearted people. I'm so thankful for them(: This awesome sister named Lauren in the YSA Ward came to some appointments with us later, which all fell through, but we were able to get to know her better. She's really great and is so willing to come see people with us, so that's exciting! Then, we had exchanges with Sister Tafengatoto and Sister Waite! Which leads me to....
                                                             Me and the Mackrory's! (:

WEDNESDAY! One of the best days. Sister Waite was here with me in Longmont and oh my goodness we had so much fun(: We had a great lesson with C______ in the morning. She has grown in leaps and bounds since the first time I met her. She seriously is glowing now, and it's so cool to see the light of Christ in her as she continues to progress. We had lunch at Natural Grocers (and keep in mind that it is a beautiful sunny day, therefore I did not wear my snow boots) and when we walked back outside it was a full on BLIZZARD. It was intense. We walked all day in it and it was so much fun. It was a miracle too, because even though my boots and two pairs of socks were completely soaked through, my feet were never cold(: Talk about a tender mercy from the Lord. We had a lesson with J_____, and it was really awesome to talk to him about the Plan of Salvation (he's been raised Catholic, so he has a very different perspective than we do). He was so excited when we told him about the Fall, and about how it was necessary. He was like, "That makes so much sense!!". It was really cool to see him understand. Dinner at the Merrill's was tons of fun, they have two little girls who are the cutest thing ever. Also, she made raw vegan brownies and they were so delicious. Sister Waite really is one of my best friends out here. I'm so thankful we got to spend the day together.
                                                                  Sister Waite and I! (:
Sister Waite and I showing our true colors!!  haha! (:

Thursday we had another lesson with F_____. He said the closing prayer and it was AMAZING, because he talked about his father who is sick and it was just a really beautiful thing to be a part of. He has such a strong testimony. We had a lesson with C__________ also, and it was amazing to hear her pray as well. She really poured her heart out to our Heavenly Father and the spirit was so strong. Getting to pray with people is one of the coolest experiences as a missionary. I love it. We had a lesson with D____, R____, and C______. Sister Anderson came and she testified so beautifully about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. D____, R____, and C______ have had really hard lives, but they are truly being changed by Christ's Atonement. Getting to be a part of this experience has been such a blessing. I'm so incredibly happy for them.

Friday we did service with M____, and guess what?! His daughter, R____, has been attending church at the YSA Ward. He was so excited to tell us about it!(: I know that Lord is working miracles in M____' life. We had the chance to stop by D______ and C_____'s house with Lauren later, and the timing was seriously crazy because she was walking out the door just as we got there. They are still interested in learning more, work has just been crazy for her lately. We were so excited we got to see her! We had a lesson with P__, and she shared a lot about how she's kept faith during times of trial. Her daughter, A__, is having some health problems right now. I love P__ so much, and I'm praying A__ will get better.

Saturday was crazy! We had so many things fall through, and then we met so many amazing people! We met a lady named A________ while we were tracting, who took the missionary discussions a year ago, and she said that she wants to start taking them again(: We also met so many other people that we set return appointments with. Then we had a lesson with Sister Morrison and her sweet granddaughter L___ (who isn't a member). It went so well, and it was cute because we said we were going to share a scripture and she ran and grabbed her Book Of Mormon that we gave to her last time. She was so excited!(: We had dinner with the Doherty's/Anderson's and Brother C_____ later. It was so much fun. I seriously love them so much. They are one of those families that I've met that I honestly know I'm supposed to be friends with. I am so thankful that they are here in Longmont and that I've had the blessing of getting to know them.

Yesterday was hard, but still wonderful. All of the testimonies were awesome, but especially J_______'s (a 10 year old boy in the ward). He testified so plainly and powerfully of the truthfulness of the gospel, which was so cool to see from someone who was so young! It strengthened my testimony a lot. F____ didn't make it to church, and we haven't heard from him at all, which has been weird. I'm praying for him and just trusting that the Lord has a plan and a reason for it. The Bishop told us that Sister Morrison talked to him about how L____ has loved the lessons with us!(: And she also talked about baptism, which is so amazing! We are so excited for her.

Something I was reminded of this week is that everyone has their agency, no matter how badly I want them to experience the joys of the gospel, they have to want it too. All that I can do is have unconditional love for them, and that perfect love comes through charity. I was reading in Moroni 7: 43 - 48, and the part where it says "charity never faileth" really stuck out to me. I know that as long as I have charity for the people I'm serving, I'm doing the right thing. I love being a missionary. I love my Savior, and I'm so thankful for His atonement. I'm so thankful for the gospel, and I know that it is true. I love all of you! And I hope you have a great week.

Love, Sister Allen
